Vote for your favorite WP Story at WpVote

Social bookmarking, social networking, and Twitter are definitely ruling webspheres in 2009, aren’t they? In short, social media is the focus of most trend and traffic conscious internet entrepreneurs.

At the same time WordPress‘ influence as a force by itself is also on the rise. When you combine the hottest social bookmarking site concept with the coolest and greatest blogging platform ever (individual opinion applies here), what do you get? WpVote!

Mind you, WpVote is a “Digg site for WordPress fanatics“, it is a social bookmarking site for any story related to WordPress only. WpVote is based on Digg’s voting system but totally powered by WordPress. WpVote has been totally redesigned since August 2008, and now integrates a function for users to share the stories they like through Twitter. So basically the formula for WpVote would equal:

WordPress + Digg concept + Twittering function = SUCCESS!

OK, maybe I have overhyped the success part or maybe it just too early to predict how successful WpVote will be. However, I am pretty sure that the owner’s decision to breathe a second life into the site and hang on to it is right, especially when the economy is bad, recession will devalue the price of the site in the market if he had chosen to sell it instead. Besides, as news related to WordPress continue to grow exponentially (again, am I boasting? you decide), WpVote will serve as a good repository for WP fanatics to find and read only the best and most popular stories.

How could WpVote improve further and become more popular?

I don’t mean to say that WpVote is currently not popular, it already has over 250 RSS subscribers. But I see the potential for this site, or rather this idea, to grow mainstream and attain at least a fraction of Digg’s popularity among web users.

For minor improvement, it would be easy for anyone on the street to suggest. Integrate more social bookmarking/networking buttons, promote it through established sites like Facebook (create a group or something), create a contest, a chain and viral twittering campaign, create press releases, give away some freebies, etc.

To achieve a major break though, Mr. Jean-Baptiste Jung should consider approaching prospectful investors, even big names in the web industry like Digg owner Kevin Rose and other internet entrepreneurs. Offer them a percentage of future profits or ownership or give the contributors a permanent individual page each at WpVote or something.

I think that’s about as much suggestions an insignificant (The)ContestBlogger like me could give. Good luck and I certainly hope to see a site gets its major breakthrough in my very eyes, it will be a great experience. Allow me to add some parting words to Mr. Jean-Baptiste Jung:

“You have stumbled upon a goldmine, now mine it the best way you could”

Raymond.CC Blog – computers, made easy Review

Raymond.CC Blog is a technological blog with topics related to softwares and IT, there are especially many how-to articles on the blog, making the life of those easier for software users.

I have stumbled upon Raymond.CC Blog more than a year ago and now the blog is more popular than ever. Raymond is a Malaysian blogger. No doubt, I regard his blog as the No. 1 technological blog in Malaysia, I believe there is no other Malaysian blogger with over 50,000++ RSS feeds subscribers.

According to an interview of Raymond done by a fellow Malaysian blogger, I believe Raymond to be a polite and humble person. He does not chase for fame and glory and prefers to remain anonymous. I think this policy of his will only get harder and harder, considering the fame of his blog which is still definitely on the rise.

This is indeed the hallmark of a truly great blogger, provides great content and enjoy the blogging process. No hype, no air of superiority and no veiled attempts at getting unsuspecting readers to make him more money (through sign-ups, purchase, affiliate link baiting, etc.). It is blogger like Raymond we want in the blogosphere, not someone who generates traffic through scandals, hype and various other unethical tactics. Kudos to Raymond, you are a blogger I look up to and aim to emulate. I hope your blog become more and more successful.

To readers who have only just heard about Raymond.CC Blog, I suppose my earlier description is not enough to do justice to the wonderful blog. In short, if you like anything related to IT, software, anti-virus, operating system, how-to articles and web applications news, you have to visit Raymond.CC Blog now!

Lastly, if the last paragraph is still not convincing enough, let’s just say there’s so much benefits you could get from Raymond.CC Blog. There are many giveaways and free tips that could benefit you, even if you are not faced with a particular computer problems right now. For example, I myself have got a free premium image hosting account due to Raymond’s tip. At other times, he also let us know how and where to get free license for some anti-virus softwares, how to troubleshoot a certain computer problems, how to make use of technology to make it easier to complete your manual everyday job, etc. Lastly there is a free forum on the site too, for like-minded individuals and I think if you have a computer problem, you may ask your questions there and hope somebody come to your rescue (who knows, it could be Raymond the White Horse Prince, hehe…)

Unfortunately, this will be the end of this review, I have the principle that says, “it’s useless to speak more, action is louder than words”. I hope I got the translation from Chinese language right ;)

Easiest Chance to Win a Free iPhone, Ever!

What did you do after finishing high school? It is no doubt one of the major crossroads in one’s life. Do you go to college? Do you take up odd jobs just to delay the imminent decision? Or do you prefer to work in a low paying job, opting to enjoy your life with meagre income and no special responsibility?

I don’t know about you but apparently there is a new boy in the blogosphere, his name is Avon Blake. To tell the truth, I don’t think he is new in the blogosphere at all. He could afford to buy a premium WordPress and is planning to set up 10 different dot com blogs in various niches and he also is quite knowledgable about CSS and HTML coding. He has announced himself a problogger!

According to this boy, his world domination plan has already started and the tools to advance his plan are the 10 blogs which he has been planning to set up. Well, referring back to my question at the beginning of the post, Avon Blake is 18 years old and has just completed his high school, instead of working or furthering his studies, he will use 1 year’s time to experiment and try to earn as much money as possible online. I guess depending on the results, he might change path or continue down it until the very end. I wish him all the best, would be a great inspiration to everyone if he is able to indeed find success this way :)

By the way, I do not dare to ridicule this boy’s dream. He has certainly created a bang with a controversy debut post and is now offering a free iPhone to 1 person out of the many who link back to Avon Blake.com in a blog post. A random draw will be done to select the lucky winner at the end of this month. With such a good buzzing start and daring giveaway, I pray that he would be successful, the world needs more of this kind of miracle inspiration.

Get posting now, I think the contest is ending soon. Good luck.

BloggingfromScratch Short Review

BloggingfromScratch is a neat little blog, the main purpose being to share latest trends and news to help you blogging and make money online.

Overall

The blog is pleasant to navigate around, is it only 2 months old and there’s not much content yet. The blog is neat, no excessive advertorials, there’s only like six 125×125 ad space and 1 EntreCard widget used. Blog owner also advertises her online services: banner designs, wordpress themes customization and blog consultation.

Blog post

Blog owner has a good ability to write post without hypes and most of her posts are easy to understand, direct to the point. She likes to share her experience in making money online with her readers. However, her posts are not imposing, no such thing one should do this, others should do that, etc. She just truthfully speak of her own experience, put forward her case studies and research and state her opinions openly. I notice that blog owner likes blog contests very much :) So do I hehe!

Expectations and Reach

Currently I believe that BloggingfromScratch has about 80 subscribers and averaging about 150 visitors per day. Considering the age of this blog, I must say that it is quite an achievement already. Blog owner is modest and do not set her blog goals too high and so far has fulfilled her goals and is expected to have more than 80 subscribers and 200 unique visitors per day. If you visit the blog, you could possibly see a new contest launched back-to-back just after the announcement of another contest. With this kind of exposure and linkbacks, I think this blog will at least be given a PR2-PR3 in the next Google PageRank update.

Comments

Blog owner has proven yet again that quality content is the king. With a good start and equally good owner or contributers, a blog cannot possibly fail (depending on your definition of failure). Throw in one or two well organised contest(s) shortly after the launch of your blog, the chances of your blog making it big is really unlimited.

Kudos to BloggingfromScratch, I wish you will achieve all your goals for this particular blog :)

Life is Colourful 1st Anniversary Contest

Life is Colourful is essentially a make money online (MMO) blog but there are various topics unrelated to making money online. There are posts about life, health, travel, shopping and even sports. I think it can more accurately be described as a personal make money online blog with blog posts relevant to MMO and its owner’s life experience and interests. I am very much attracted to the blog layout, it is clean (YAY, I like white!) and all the elements are well-arranged. However I think there are actually too many advertisements on display currently, that’s my only complain so far.

There’s really nothing else to complain about, especially not when Life is Colourful is running a contest with over $3000 in cash and prizes to be won. Without further ado, here I present the prize list of the contest:

Free 3G iPhone from Upstart Blogger

Ashley Morgan of Upstart Blogger is giving away a 3G iPhone for its June contest. With the tag line “Successful Blogging Made Simple”, jazz trumpet player Ashley Morgan plans to help bloggers in their quest for success, i.e. making money online, achieving fame and publicity or just getting a sizeable number of readers through Upstart Blogger.

Apparently, besides giving out great prizes almost every month and free WordPress themes for download, Upstart Blogger is a great blog to read, there are content about making money online, online traffic, web hosting, blogging software and affiliate marketing.

Upstart Blogger also has a most special blog design and layout. It does not look like any other blogs, its design is unique but not excessively out of place. I am certainly attracted to its design, Upstart Blogger really walks its talk about the importance of having a good blog design to attract visitors.

If at the end of this review, you are still not tempted to visit Upstart Blogger, I wonder if you would change your mind if I were to mention that Ashley is also sort of a philanthropist? Many bloggers nowadays are focused on making money and don’t care about anything else. Ashley is totally different, he does not hide the fact that he wants to make money online, yet he also tries his best to help those in need. So if you are considering signing up for web hosting, please visit Upstart Blogger, you will be able to get some very good deals (discount coupon, free domains, free hosting for a few months, etc.) and possibly help those in need. Hope you find Upstart Blogger interesting :)

What is MyApartmentMap?

MyApartmentMap.com is a web application that uses Google Maps and publicly available apartment listings to create a unique way to find apartments. Several times a day apartments are downloaded, archived, and plotted on MyApartmentMap. The apartments are processed, grouped, and sorted to provide you with the most efficient display of apartment listings.

MyApartmentMap was started when [one of the developers of the site] was looking for a new apartment in Boston, MA. He didn’t have a car, so he wanted to view apartments that were near specific subway and commuter train stations. He released a crude site with limited options that only displayed apartments in Boston. Since then, MyApartmentMap has been slowly upgraded to add new features, new cities and a new design.
